Rudy is back after an unintentionally long hiatus with a barn burner. Lots of new news to report on. Rudy was moonlighting with the legendary Mango Wrangler Socialites at the Blue Mermaid on May 1st. A night of loud potty-mouthed jam banding was enjoyed by all. Check the action.

Music Featured in Fiesta Movement Mission

A brand new Rudy Sims track (man is that old timey…) was featured in John Herman’s latest mission video for Ford’s Fiesta Movement (the astute reader will remember Rudy’s contribution to Herman’s last mission video). The mission details John and Danielle’s foray into Geocaching. Geocachers leave treasures at precise global coordinates only accessable by GPS. Others are encouraged to first find the booty and then sign the logbook and leave a treasure of their own. Their experiences are then shared online.

Indie pop darlings Murkádee recently played their last show. Ever. This volume of Live From The Archives! documents this monumental occasion. The Portsmouth Pearl is a historic church in Portsmouth NH built in 1868 where a young Martin Luther King Jr. once preached.

The Chris Merenda Band Live at StrangeCreek Campout, Camp Kee-Wanee 5-23-2009

This is the second in an ongoing series of live concerts. The Chris Merenda Band played at the StrangeCreek Campout on May 23, 2009. This was a 3 day festival featuring many great acts including Max Creek and Strangefolk. This version of the Chris Merenda Band featured Bruce Mandaro on electric guitar, mandolin and vocals, Jon Briggs on acoustic guitar, Benny Fingers Kohn on keys, Matty Lamb on drums and Evan Randall on bass. Tech info: recorded on a Zoom H4 (internal mics); high-pass filter, multiband compression and limiter.

The Chris Merenda Band Live at Bousquet 6-28-2008

Here is a recording of the Chris Merenda Band at Bousquet on 6-28-2008. This was a part of Tony Lee Thomas’ CD release party for his 2008 disc entitled “In Love And War”. This is the first in an ongoing series of live recordings uploaded to the amazing Archive.org. This set includes tracks from Merenda’s two solo albums “The Regimen” and “Hello Freedom”, as well as some older Chewy tracks. Tech info: this was recorded using a Zoom H4 with the internal mics (limiter on) then normalized.

Indie pop darlings Murkádee are performing their LAST! SHOW! EVAR! this Friday May 29th at The Portsmouth Pearl on Pearl Street in Portsmouth, NH. The show starts at 7 pm with The Brave Little Abacus opening up. Admission is $5, or $10 including a copy of the final Murkádee album “Hislop”. Keep an eye out for Rudy Sims on bass…

Horseography Used In Fiesta Movement Mission

The track “Horseography” from Humanatone was used in the latest Ford Fiesta Movement video by “Agent 54” (John Herman). He took the Fiesta up to the top of the Mount of Washington, highest peak in the Northeast and home to the world’s worst weather. Watch as the Talented Mr. Herman’s fear of heights is tested! Witness the bravery of his intrepid wife! Breathe in the pastoral themes evoked by the music!

The Fiesta Movement Has Begun

This is kind of old news, but the lead-off track from Humanatone entitled “Falling Down The Stairs” was recently featured in a video by Mr. John Herman. Herman entered this video as part of Ford’s Fiesta Movement. He was selected as one of 100 “agents” who will be among the first Americans to test drive the new Ford Fiesta. He can now be located anywhere in The Shire in his (almost) one of a kind vehicle. See him and the JohnHermantourage in the video below.

Humanatone

Humanatone is the recently released third album by Rudy Sims. It was written and recorded as part of the 2009 RPM Challenge. This album focuses on an underutilized instrument in modern music – the nose flute (also called a nose whistle or “humanatone“). The nose flute is played by blowing through the nose using the mouth as a resonating cavity. Besides nose flutes, this album also boasts an eclectic mixture of pop, ambient and experimental tracks. It is the most sophisticated Rudy Sims album to date. Hear it here.

Strange Creek 2009

Rudy was recently spotted at the 7th annual Strange Creek Campout music festival playing a set with The Chris Merenda Band in support of Chris’ forthcoming album “The Wheel”. A recording of the set exists, but is of dubious quality. Highlights 0f the festival included the Northshire String Band and Zach Deputy (oh yeah, and wigged out hippies galore). Shop at Brighter Daze, but beware of the Danger Car.
